Applying some Japanese Philosophy to cope better with Covid-19 Isolation. Check My tips in the audio below!

Daniel’s One-Off Show

We are all experiencing a global problem with the word “pandemic” right next to it. And this problem has also been detrimental to our mental health. Covid-19 has forced us to go into isolation, making us feel like punished 5-year-olds locked in our bedroom without parole. We enjoy our free will and the ability to control our outcome to a certain extent. When our independence is taking away from us we feel confused, insecure, and controlled. By doing a personal survey all these apparent negative feelings seemed to be summed up in the word “uncertainty”. Even though we have plenty of things we could be doing in our homes with all this free time, I find the great majority of us don’t deal with this word very well. And that learning to manage situations that bring uncertainty to the surface of our lives requires attention, practice, and skill.

There are three main factors that I observe are great contributors to the feeling of being anxious in the midst of uncertainty. They are claustrophobia, the feeling of being stuck, and being in denial or that accepting the reality of this situation. Based on my research I find that the Japanese deal with these factors on an everyday basis and even though they are not perfect, some of their philosophies can be quite helpful and inspiring. The author of my project is myself, Daniel Marchan. I am credible to bring because research from previous essays supports my claims. By carefully observing some of the struggles people are facing by being Isolated due to Covid-!9. I can see how applying some concepts of the Japanese ways of living can be useful when coping with the feeling of being locked down.

The rhetorical situation is the anxiety people are facing by being Isolated against their will due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Previous Essays in my English 101 class led me to think of ways to turn this negative situation into a positive one. My audience is people who are trying to find ways to deal with the source of their anxiety due to being isolated. The two genres that I used are motivational speech and audio. The medium I used is my online portfolio. It is an open website and be easily accessed through the web when sharing the link. I wrote a scripted idea with the name “Daniel’s one-off show” and used an audio interface to record my ideas and give it a Podcast feel.

The purpose of my project is to present alternative perspectives on how to handle the lockdown experience and try to make it a positive one. The stance has towards this topic is an empathetic and positive one. I am eager to share some of the rational thinking that has helped handle and even find some joy during this challenging time. My tone throughout the project is encouraging and motivational. Using my own experiences applying these concepts. I can appreciate the value of these and hope they can be helpful to others as well. The language used is informal and upbeat through the whole audio. In essence, this topic is important to me because taking any opportunity to evolve an better myself has been the best way for me to deal with issues of depression and loneliness. Being the only member of my family in this big city for two years has given me a jumpstart dealing with these long before this outbreak started. I believe self-improvement is essential for anybody to maintain their mental health during challenging times.
